Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland woke up experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, bringing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Locals reported large ice chunks reaching sizes of 7cm in some areas. Meteorological experts announced that various areas across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

At the same time, nearly 1,000 energy customers in Victoria also encountered energy failures after the metropolitan area recorded its wettest day in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services responded to over five hundred emergency reports across the region, primarily for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were predicted to continue along significant areas of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with continued severe weather risk expected across different parts of both states.
