Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he lost control at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
